The New Colossus: #NoBanNoWall

The New Colossus
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoning lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles.  From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep, ancient lands, your stories pomp!" cries she
With silent lips.  "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, the tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
~Emma Lazarus circa 1883

How angry I am to hear that this once great nation, a nation founded on freedom from oppression, is no longer obtainable because a "Man in The High Castle" is feeding his power off of the fear from the American people.  Why are people, from war countries, not allowed to kiss the ground that so many men and women in history have laid down their lives and bled for our freedom?  Is it because they might be a terrorist?  Sorry to have to tell you this, but we have terrorists who are American citizens and their lineage doesn't have to be from a war saturated country.  So ,stop profiling!
Everyone who has stepped on American soil were refugees at one point.  We left countries ruled by dictators, who kept our rights and beliefs locked up in a prison tower along with all our hopes and dreams.  You have the Puritans and the Pilgrims, the Irish, the Italian......anyone from impoverished countries who, by the grace of God, found a drive and fire burning inside of them in pursuit of something better and to make it better.  This fire and this drive was inspiration for many immigrants and refugees from around the world to come to the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.  A land of opportunities where their voice is not muffled by a totalitarian society but by a democracy.  Your voice, Our voice, matters.
In the land of new beginnings, Lady Liberty opens her arms to all the oppressed, hopeless people with dying faith and breathes new life into them.....to feel the freedom of hope revived within their soul.  She shines her light at the golden door.  Once you pass through those doors, opportunity presents itself with life anew.  We are the land of opportunity for not just Americans.......

BUT FOR ALL who enter those doors!

PONDER AND THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO DO BEFORE YOU ACTUALLY DO IT.  THINK ABOUT THE REPERCUSSIONS OF YOUR ACTIONS, MR. PRESIDENT.  I BEG OF YOU!  LET THIS COUNTRY BE A SANCTUARY FILLED WITH HOPE AND FREEDOM! xoxo Robin-Louise Burkitt
